Agave Century Plant
Agave Century Plant
Originally transplanted from pups found in Del Rio, these agave have not only survived in West Texas harsh conditions, but thrived.
Tough as they come, simply dig a hole and set plant base in side. Fill in dirt around and water in.
Keep it watered, or don’t. These desert natives aren’t interested in your coddling or TLC.
These have been watered somewhat regularly during the spring and summer but get almost zero water, unless it falls from the sky.
If the conditions are right, these plants can easily reach an 8 foot diameter. As the plant ages, it sends out dozens of pups around itself before finally growing a single bloom, which sprouts from the center of the plant and climbs skyward seemingly overnight to heights of 15-25 feet before putting out a massive bloom that brings pollinators from all over. Once the bloom dies, the main plant is done and the pups carry on the legacy of the original plant. The bloom stalk hardens to almost a tree-like wood and can be burned or recycled into other useful things.
The pups are readily dug up and transplanted.
If you need a plant that is hardy and almost impossible to kill, that can withstand drought and neglect, that can protect itself against pesky pets, and that gets large and reproduces easily, then this is the plant for you.
Ideal for locals, but we’re willing to ship!
